Be a demi pair in Germany!
Less work, more time to study!
The term "demi pair" is derived from the more common "au pair", which is French for "equal" or "mutual". It implies that giving and taking between you and your host family should be well-balanced. The other part of the term, demi, means half, indicating that you work less than an Aupair would and are afforded more time to study.
As a demi pair in Germany, you basically do the same things as an Aupair: You live in a host family, you care for their children and do light household tasks, you bring the children to school or pick them up – and in your free time, you get to study German, go out with newfound friends or simply enjoy your host country. For the basic requirements, rights and duties of a demi pair, please check the relevant Aupair pages.
The main difference between an Aupair and a demi pair is in the amount of work and study expected of you. As a demi pair, you only work for up to 4 hours per day or 20 hours per week, whereas an Aupair would work 5 hours daily. In the remaining time, however, you are expected to visit a language school and take daily German lessons. Note that you will have to cover the costs of the German course yourself – just like with Aupairs, however, accommodation, food and health insurance are provided by your host family.
Why be a demi pair?
Being a demi pair is a lot of fun. You get to spend time with the children, and you have a lot of time of your own, to use for studying, making friends, or experiencing German culture. The best part about coming to Germany as a demi pair, however, is that you’ll have the opportunity to vastly improve your German.
To that end, you will visit a language course in one of our partner schools in Berlin or Munich. The schools are very experienced, having taught German as a second language for 50 years. You will be instructed by highly qualified teachers who are accustomed to teaching foreign students.
The schools are modern and well-equipped with all the necessary tools for language learning. Classes are no greater than fifteen students, so the teachers have plenty of time to deal with your individual questions, and the varied and exciting curriculum is complemented by a strong focus on listening comprehension and speaking skills.
All this will help to make learning German an enjoyable task, and we’re sure you’ make successful and swift progress. On top of that, if you’re planning to study in Germany after the program, the school will also help you with admissions to German universities.
